Bring your Goodreads shelf

  1. On Goodreads, go to My Books, then Import and export (under Tools).
  2. Click Export Library. It can take a few minutes — refresh the page if it says your export is still running — then download the CSV it creates.
  3. Come back here and choose that file.

Exporting from Goodreads works best on a computer. Export your library there, then come back here on your phone to choose the file.

Your library is saved in your browser. Asking for recommendations sends your mood and book details to an AI provider. How your data is handled

What is Off Your Shelf?

A tool that recommends what to read next from books you already own or have saved to read — never a book you don't have. Import your Goodreads "Want to Read" export, describe your mood, and get up to 3 matches from that list.

Where does my Goodreads data go?

Your CSV file is read in your browser and your library is saved there, not on our servers. When you ask for recommendations, your mood and your books' titles, authors, page counts, subjects and descriptions are sent through our server to an AI model (OpenAI, via OpenRouter) to pick matches, and importing looks each book up on Open Library. See the privacy page for details.

How do I export my Goodreads "Want to Read" list?

On Goodreads, go to My Books, then Import and export (under Tools), and export your library. Off Your Shelf reads the resulting CSV and pulls out books shelved as "to-read." Steps are on the empty-state screen too.

Do I need an account?
